Research Repositories and Theses

Theses written by UC students and staff are listed in our catalogue and available for loan. Many Australian theses are available online from the Australasian Digital Theses database, some in fulltext. More information and links to theses and dissertation databases and research repositories is available from the Theses webpage.

Citation checking - Web of Science, Scopus, Google Scholar

Cited Reference Search on Web of Science is the most popular tool to find who has cited your work. Be aware however that it only identifies citations in selected journals and not in books, web pages, etc. and is weak in non-US coverage. For help with cited searching use the ISI online tutorial.

Scopus  is the largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed science, social science and arts and humanities literature. Check the interactive tutorial for information on specific features of Scopus and help with citation searching.

Google Scholar, a free web search engine, also helps identify cited references in journal articles, conference papers, research repositories and on websites.

It is advisable to check all 3 databases for an exhaustive citation search.

Alerting services – journal TOCs and database searches

Alerting services help you keep up-to-date with current literature in your area of research. Some alerting services are provided as part of the Library's subscriptions and others are free. To register for alerting services, follow the links on journal publishers' web sites or register with databases that offer such a service.

Types of alerting services include:

  • Table of Contents Alerts (TOC) - tables of contents of new issues of selected journals are sent to you by email.
  • Saved Search Alerts (SSA) – You can sign in to certain databases, e.g. EBSCO databases, and set up a search to run at nominated intervals and you will be alerted to new articles meeting your search criteria.
  • Citation Alerts (CA) - email notification is sent when nominated articles are cited by another article. Available from Web of Science and Scopus
