Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) Requirements

The genuine temporary entrant (GTE) requirement is an integrity measure to ensure that the student visa programme is used as intended and not as a way for international students to maintain ongoing residency in Australia. The GTE requirement applies to all student visa applicants.

More information on GTE can be found here.

The University of Canberra may undertake a GTE assessment on your application.

You are required to complete University of Canberra online GTE form only if you receive an email from UC’s admission team with a link to complete the form.  Please note this email will be sent to you after you have been sent an email with your offer letter.

You are required to upload the GTE supporting documents while completing the online GTE form. You will find the link to this form in the second email notification.

Please note that CoEs will not be issued until you have cleared the GTE assessment

The online GTE form will have clear instructions on which documents you need to upload

As part of the student visa application process, all students are required to demonstrate the genuineness of their intentions to study through the submission of a Statement of Purpose (SOP).

The information you need to provide depends on your circumstances. Please select one of the categories below for guidelines on writing your SOP.

Note: All SOPs must be written by the student (not the agent or a family member) and should match the student’s current English ability.

Please be aware that you may be required to provide additional information for your visa application including evidence of English language and financial capacity.  This requirement may differ from what the University requires you to provide.

It is your responsibility to ensure that your visa application is complete at the time of submission.  Incomplete visa applications may result in your visa application being refused.
