Full-time StudyIf you hold a student visa in Australia, you are required to study full-time throughout the length of your course. Students are not permitted to study part-time unless they are already in Australia on a spouses' study visa, or on a diplomatic or dependent temporary resident visa. It is possible to have a part-time study load in the final semester of your study depending on the number of subjects to be completed. Members of the Diplomatic Corps and their DependentsThe University of Canberra provides concessional tuition fees for some diplomats and their dependents. For further information please read our Information Sheet (PDF format). If you wish to apply for these concessional rates our application form is also available (PDF format). Credit Transfer and Offshore DeliveryUC has signed articulation arrangements with a number of universities and colleges both outside and inside Australia. So you may be able to transfer credit points from your present degree or diploma to your course at the University of Canberra. This will mean that you need study fewer units to complete your UC degree. In some cases you may be able to study for a UC degree taught off-shore in your own country. You can find these arrangements on our UC Partnerships website. Canberra Institute of Technology Articulation AgreementsIf you are studying at the CIT and wish to continue your studies with UC after graduation, please visit the CIT-UC Student Opportunities and Pathways website. There you will find what credits you can transfer to your UC course. Assessment MethodsA number of different methods of assessment will be employed throughout your study period at UC. The methods and weighting of each assessment piece will vary depending on the subject you are undertaking. Methods of assessment include examinations, assignments, essays, presentations and seminars, individual and group projects, and tutorial participation. Your Study ProgramInternational students are subject to the same rules, teaching methods and criteria of assessment as other students enrolled in the course. You will be liable for exclusion for unsatisfactory progress under the same criteria applied to other students taking the course. Summer SemesterIf you want to fast-track your degree or catch up on some units, UC offers a summer semester between December and February each year. Scholarships for International StudentsThe University currently offers coursework and research scholarships to international students. For further information, please visit the International Student Scholarships page. English Language RequirementsThe standard English Language for admission to UC is a IELTS score of 6.5. Students with IELTS 6.0 are required to complete 10 weeks at the University of Canberra English Language Institute (UCELI) before starting their degree programs (and be assessed from that course that they have attained a standard equivalent to IELTS 6.5, without sitting for the IELTS test again). Students with IELTS 5.5 are required to complete 20 weeks at UCELI before starting their degree programs (and be assessed from that course that they have attained a standard equivalent to IELTS 6.5, without sitting for the IELTS test again). It is important to note that length of time spent studying these levels is dependent on English levels on arrival and on individual progress. Recommended length of time to progress 0.5 of an IELTS band score is currently 10 weeks. Academic Faculties
