Backing Up Files
Student 'Home Drive'
Each student is allocated 600mb storage space on the Student Server.
- The Student Server on the PC is called H Drive.
- The Student Server on the Mac is u######@student
Home Directory "H" Drive quota
All students have a fixed allocation of network disk storage.
You receive 600MB of network disk storage on the H drive. You can also save your work into a folder call My Documents which is located on the Desktop and is also part of your H drive. You can use this space to store your work e.g. assignments, presentations and images. If you exceed this quota limit you will not be able to save any new files or update current ones and you will also be unable to logoff the PC until you have reduced your storage. This can be done simply by removing or compressing files that you currently have stored on the H drive.
To check your "H" Drive quota level:
-
Log onto OSIS
-
Click on Network Utilities
-
Click on Disk Quota Report
IMPORTANT: Try to avoid saving documents directly onto the Desktop, as you have a very limited space allocation; it will fill up quickly and you will get messages saying you have run out of space.
Data Storage
Always keep at least 2 copies of important files in different places (that is 1 copy on a thumb drive also known as a USB drive and a memory stick) and one copy on the Student Server known as you H drive. Always save your original file to your H drive then make copies/backups onto a thumb drive.
Student Server (H Drive)

VERY IMPORTANT Read below
Before unplugging the Thumbdrive it must be unmounted by Windows. Find this icon (

![]()
Select this option by left-clicking the mouse over the button. You should then get a message that it is now safe to remove the thumb drive from the pc.
