Digital Lecture Recording Service

ICT offers a service for recording lectures in most Category A teaching spaces. When using the online lecture recording system, the lectures are recorded digitally and made available for on-demand streaming via the Web. Most lectures are recorded as audio only, but a few rooms have been equipped to record an image from the data projector or from a camera that covers the front of the lecture theatre. A live streaming service is also available on request.

Lecture Recording/Streaming is available in the following Category A rooms:

  • Rooms with Audio and Image recording: 2B7, 2B9, 2B11, 12B50 and 14B1
  • Rooms with Audio recording only: 2B2, 2B4, 6B10, 6B41, 6B45, 6C34, 6C35, 6C36, 9A1, 9B2 and 12B2.

Booking the lecture recording service

  • Download a Request Form or phone the Audio Visual Department on 6201 5505 for a copy.
  • Return a hard copy of the completed and signed document (please fill in BOTH SIDES OF THE FORM if applicable) to the Audio Visual Department, Building 10.

Please note the following important information:

Copyright clearance

The request for lecture recording for a whole semester needs to be made by the lecturer in charge of the relevant Subject and all lecturers delivering material need to sign a copyright declaration form.

Lecturers are responsible for obtaining copyright clearance for any copyright material used and should be familiar with the Copyright legislation.

Access to lecture material

Online access to streamed lectures is restricted to enrolled UC students and UC staff and will require the use of the UC Network usercode and password to gain access.

The digitally recorded lectures will be retained online until the end of semester. Files can be downloaded and saved during semester.

Linking to subject web sites

A web site will be created for each recorded subject and new digital recordings will be added to this site as they accumulate. It will also be possible for you to link to the page of recordings for your subject, either from WebCT or from any other Web pages you have for your subject.

You will need to link to the following URL: http://lectures.canberra.edu.au/ucdirect/sk.php?op=subjects&code=xxxxxx where "xxxxxx" is the six-digit subject number for your subject.

For example, the URL for subject number 001234 would be: http://lectures.canberra.edu.au/ucdirect/sk.php?op=subjects&code=001234

A link to the web site containing lectures recorded for a subject will be available from OSIS and OPUS.

Information for students

The lectures are recorded digitally and are made available for streaming in Windows Media format. Information for students on accessing recorded lectures is available online. A supporting frequently asked questions (FAQ) page is also available.

It is the Lecturer's responsibility to inform students their lecture is being recorded. The image component of lectures which are recorded in video mode will show what is projected on the screen using the data projector or, when nothing is projected, a view of the lectern and the lecturer.

Removing recorded lectures

Lecturers may request removal of recorded lectures from the online store by contacting the Audio Visual Department or by phoning 6201 5505.

Using PowerPoint

Guidelines for using PowerPoint presentations in lectures, which will be recorded for streaming in rooms that support a video component, are available. Corresponding PowerPoint templates are also available.

Further information and assistance

When you access the lecture, there is a link to provide feedback on technical issues.
