Access from Off Campus
If you have Norton Internet Security installed on your computer and are having problems accessing the Library databases, you may need to make the following changes to your system.
When you click a link on a web page, your browser sends the address of page you are on to the server of the new web page. This way, the server for the new web page knows the last web page you viewed. This is known as the Referer.
By default, Norton Internet Security (NIS) blocks this Referer information.
To access the Library databases, your browser needs to pass the Referer information. To allow NIS 2004 to pass on this information, you must create a rule for the web sites listed in the instructions below.
1. Open Norton Internet Security
2. Click on Privacy Control
3. Click on the "Configure" button
4. In Privacy Control - Bring down the control to Medium
5. Click on the Advanced button
6. Click on the Global Settings Tab and change settings to those shown above
7. Click on the Add Site button and type in "lpx.canberra.edu.au" without the quotes
8. Press "OK" buttons until you reach the main NIS menu. Press the "x" at the top right of the window to drop NIS back to the tray on the bottom right of your screen. (NIS should remain running in the background.)
9. You may have to repeat the above for "canberra.edu.au" and "web-auth.lpx2.canberra.edu.au".
