Access from Off-Campus

The University does not operate its own off-campus Internet service for staff and students, who should subscribe to one of the numerous commercial Internet Service Providers (ISPs) if they wish to use UC Online resources from home.

Off Campus Access to UC Restricted Services via EZProxy

Restricted services include electronic databases, e-journals, and e-reserve (the Course Materials Database) and other resources whose use is restricted to staff and students of the University of Canberra. The system which enables you to access these services is called EZProxy. EZProxy will ask you to authenticate yourself with your staff or student ID and password every time you use these services.

Known Problems and Solutions

You may not be able to access some of these restricted services if:

If your ISP is filtering your access request via a proxy server:

  • You will need to tick the "using proxy" box on the 'Web-Authentication Login Form'. You might not be aware that your ISP is doing this so try it if you are having problems.

How to get help and report problems

  • General problems with dial-in access should be reported to your ISP
  • If you have user code or password problems please contact the Service Desk or phone 6201 5500
  • Some resources (e.g. factiva) limit the number of simultaneous users. If you can't logon immediately, consider searching another database in the interim and try connecting again later
  • If you have problems searching individual databases or e-journals, please contact the Library Research Assistance Desk or phone 6201 5082 (the help screens of individual databases may solve your problem)
