Project Size Guidelines

Broad guidelines for project size are as follows:

Size

Explanation

Small

10 to 20 days of staff effort; minimum interaction with other systems, small number of stakeholders involved, total cost of the project does not exceed $15,000.  Often managed entirely within a Division, an ICT team or an Enterprise System Coordination group and appears on the project register “for information” with the UIMSC Management scope as either Monitor or Influence

Medium

20-40 days of staff effort, some integration involved, small number of stakeholders, and total cost of the project does not exceed $50,000

Large

40-100 days of staff effort, extensive integration, large number of stakeholders, project cost between $50,000 and $200,000.  Most large projects have the UIMSC Management scope as Manage.

Very Large

over 100 staff days of effort, extensive integration, large number of stakeholders, project cost exceeds $200,000. All Very Large projects have the UIMSC Management scope as Manage.
