Career Management is a very important part of the long term development of our staff. Together with Succession Planning they help us develop our University through our people.
What is the difference between Career Management and Succession Planning?
The graphic below shows that Succession Planning is a process that allows the University to identify and map staff talent against current and future organisational capability needs. Career Management is a process that allows staff to identify future career moves and the skills and knowledge required to prepare themselves to gain those roles.

How does Succession Planning and Career Planning affect my development?
Staff development should be concentrated in areas that facilitate staff developing their careers to achieve their personal goals and to assist the University in meeting current and future capability needs. The graphic below shows how development should be concentrated in the areas that overlap.
