The Australian Invasive Animals Co-operative Research Centre is dedicated to developing practical, cost-effective and socially acceptable products and strategies to reduce pest animal damage in Australia. The CRC has several national locations. This position will be based in the Adelaide Office (Unley).

We seek an enthusiastic individual to provide administrative support to staff of the CRC’s Uptake of Products and Strategies Program. Tasks include acting as the first point of contact for enquiries from the general public and other visitors, performing a range of general clerical/administrative duties, tracking the performance of research projects and assisting in the preparation of research reports and arranging travel. The successful applicant will be practical, flexible and able to work with limited direction.

The position is offered at 20 hours per week to full time (to be negotiated with the successful applicant) for a fixed term of 4 years.

The Work Area:

The Invasive Animals Co-operative Research Centre (IACRC) is dedicated to developing practical, cost-effective and socially acceptable products and strategies to reduce pest animal damage in Australia.

The Centre is a joint venture which brings together research, government and industry agencies to improve our knowledge and management of the threat from invasive species. This dispersed organisation has several national locations. This position will be based in the Adelaide Office (Unley).

The successful applicant will work as part of a small team, often independently, that manages one of the four large scientific research portfolios within the IACRC.

Position Purpose:

Operating under general direction, the Program Administrator will provide administrative and research coordination support to the Program Leader of the Uptake of Products and Strategies Program, the Commercialisation Manager and other Centre staff members as required. The role includes acting as the first point of contact for enquiries from Program participants, the media and the general public; performing a range of clerical/administrative duties including milestone tracking, data entry and office maintenance; coordinating the preparation of scientific and administrative reports; and arranging meetings/ travel.

Duties:

Initially duties required of this position may include:

  1. Administrative work required for the effective operation of the Program, including financial administration, written report preparation and general office duties.
  2. Provide executive assistance to the Program Leader with email and travel arrangements.
  3. As first point of contact, attend to enquiries from other Program and IACRC members and the general public.
  4. Coordinate mail and accounts receivable for despatch to the IA CRC headquarters in Canberra.
  5. Contribute to the management of research within the IA CRC.
  6. Other duties as directed by the Program Leader or Commercialisation Manager.
  7. Limited overnight interstate travel will be necessary.

Essential Selection criteria:

  1. A diploma or higher in administration, science or similar.
  2. Demonstrated experience in office and research administrative procedures.
  3. Sound written and oral communication skills with proven ability to communicate with staff at all levels and members of the public.
  4. Demonstrated ability to work with limited direction, to prioritise and to operate both independently and as a member of a small team.
  5. An organised, adaptable and flexible approach to work.
  6. Demonstrated experience with computer packages for word processing, spreadsheets and communication, preferably with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Internet Explorer.
  7. Demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to implementation of equity and workplace health and safety principles.

Desirable Selection Criteria:

  1. Demonstrated experience in a scientific research field will be viewed favourably.
