Parking is free on campus and includes parking areas for disabled persons. A Creche and Pre School are located on campus.
Equal Opportunity
The University implements employment equity principles to achieve workforce diversity. Further information is available from the Equity pages in the HR website.
How to Apply
Applicants are advised to read the Position Description and Selection Criteria before contacting the nominated contact officer for further information. The contact officer will be able to answer questions in relation to procedures, structure of the area and specific requirements of the position, and to inform you about other sources of information that may be available eg. annual reports, policy statements, etc.
It is more appropriate to ask these questions before interview than to ask at interview, and it also shows that you have undertaken some research into the position. If you are then satisfied that you can meet the essential Selection Criteria, you should proceed with writing your application.
Your application should include the following:
- Completed Cover Sheet (this can be down loaded from the Web page http://www.canberra.edu.au/hr/jobs/cover).
- Curriculum Vitae (see below).
- Statement addressing the Selection Criteria.
Your Curriculum Vitae should comprise a resume of personal particulars and an outline of your work history. The following is a suggested format:
- Full name and address.
- Telephone numbers (contact numbers during business hours, at home and/or mobile if applicable).
- Educational qualifications (title, date and institution where obtained or expected date of completion).
- Employment history. Include dates, name of employer, position occupied, work area and a brief outline of the duties undertaken. The details should be in reverse chronological order, starting with your present position. Be concise and only give relevant information about major responsibilities. It is not necessary to mention in detail jobs that were held for short periods unless the experience is relevant to the advertised position, however please don't leave any unexplained gaps in your work history.
- Name, address and contact numbers of nominated referees.
The statement addressing the Selection Criteria is the most important part of the application as the information will be used to shortlist applicants for interview. Use each selection criterion as a heading and provide specific examples of past experience and behaviours that demonstrate the extent to which you meet each criterion.
For appointment to the University of Canberra you must have either Australian or New Zealand citizenship, or be eligible for permanent resident status, or have an appropriate working visa.
Submitting the application
Your application is to be submitted by the closing date to recruit@canberra.edu.au.
Please ensure the subject line of the email includes the vacancy reference number. Omission of the vacancy reference number may cause a delay in processing your application.
The University will acknowledge receipt of emailed applications via return email. Please note posted applications will not receive an acknowledgement and may experience a delay in processing.
If you have not heard further from the University within 28 days of the application closing date you should assume you have been unsuccessful.
Referee Reports
A minimum of two, preferably three, referee contacts will be required with your application.
Ideally one referee should be your immediate supervisor. The referees are requested to comment on your claim against the Selection Criteria and can also make general comments about your suitability for the advertised vacancy.
We may contact referees at any time during the selection process unless you request otherwise.
Staff Selection
After the closing date for each vacancy, the Selection Committee will determine which applicants will be selected for interview, based on an evaluation against the Selection Criteria.
Applicants selected for interview are contacted by the Recruitment Office and advised of interview details. Applicants invited to interview who may have any particular individual needs please let us know so we can make appropriate arrangements. Applicants selected for interview will be required to complete a Personal Health Statement to assist the University to avoid any reasonably foreseeable harm in employment.
Selection Committee Members are not authorised to make any commitments at interview. This means that they cannot "promise" a job to anyone, nor can they indicate the salary level that will be paid. Any questions asked by the Committee which relate to starting dates should not be taken as an offer of employment.
Post Interview
The University reserves the right not to make an appointment, or to appoint by invitation. After all interviews have taken place, the Selection Committee will recommend their preferred applicant and proposed commencing salary.
In the case of continuing appointments, and most fixed-term appointments, the appointee will normally be required to complete a period of probation.
Details of probationary requirements, documents and declarations required will be set out in the formal letter of offer, along with information relating to terms and conditions of employment.
Notification
Applicants who have been invited to interview will be notified in writing of the outcome of the selection decision.
Relocation Assistance
When a position is advertised outside of Canberra and where a staff member is appointed from outside the ACT Region, the staff member may be eligible for relocation assistance.
The Recruitment Office will confirm details of relocation assistance at the time of appointment.
Conditions of Employment
Information on relevant conditions is available from the Human Resources Unit or on the UC Policies website.
Further Inquiries
Inquiries relating to the position itself or the work area should be directed to the Contact Officer whose name and telephone number appear on the Selection Criteria.
Further inquiries on recruitment matters should be directed to the Recruitment Office on (02) 6201 5157 or via e-mail at recruit@canberra.edu.au.
