Introduced by the University in December 1998, the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is an independent and completely confidential counselling service available to staff of the University and their immediate families. The EAP provides a practical and voluntary service to assist staff to deal with any problem that might affect their health and well-being and which may impact on their work and relationships at work.

Converge International counsellors are available to offer support and counselling for any personal or work related problems you may be experiencing, including:

  • Work related issues
  • Personal issues
  • Stress, anxiety & depression
  • Job performance
  • Substance abuse
  • Career transition
  • Grief, loss, bereavement
  • Coping with change
  • Trauma management
  • Conflict with peers or management
  • Relationship & family issues
  • Harassment and bullying
  • Any other personal issues

Who Pays For The Service?

Counselling with Converge International through the EAP is free of charge for up to 3 sessions (including phone sessions) to eligible staff of the University of Canberra and their immediate families. In some situations, as a result of using the EAP the counsellor may suggest further specialised counselling or other services that may be of benefit. In such a situation, every effort will be made to recommend a service that is free, covered by health insurance, or has a fee-scale based on the employee’s ability to pay. 

In special circumstances approval may be given for a further 2 sessions.  Approval may be given by the Manager of the Health & Safety Office only after consultation and consent by all parties.

Accessing the Service

Self-Re feral: Whenever you or a family member are experiencing problems of a work or personal nature, the EAP is only a phone call away.

Encouraged referrals: Managers, work colleagues and family members can encourage employees to make use of the service.

Where does the counselling take place?

All coaching and counselling is provided off-site at one of Converge International national counselling locations or alternatively over the phone.

Monday to Friday, 8:00am - 6:30pm

After hours or telephone consultations are available on request. In case of an emergency, 1800 337 068  can be contacted 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days per year.

The Converge International extranet is an online hub of resources designed to provide you and your family with information on work related and personal issues. the extranet contains information on the latest news and events from Converge International, newsletter inserts on various topics, research papers and tip sheets.
