So you have used a fire extinguisher or fire blanket and need to know what to you do next?
Please follow these guidelines:
Lie the extinguisher or fire blanket down parallel to the wall, underneath the bracket from which the fire extinguisher or blanket came from ensuring that it does not create a trip hazard.
DO NOT replace the pin of the extinguisher - dispose of the pin correctly
Go to the Facilities and Services website under the work requests tab click on the Facilities and Services Work Request Database (BEIMS) link to report the use of the extinguisher or blanket online.
Please note that you will need to identify the fire extinguisher or blanket by one or all of the following ways:
- Equipment ID number eg. SPOT 265261
- NFS Identification number NFS 27
Both of these ID labels are located in close proximity of the extinguisher signage.
If a ID number is not available then identify by,
- Building, level and closest room location to where the extinguisher or blanket is mounted eg. Building 1, Level C, Room 1C7.
It is important that when reporting the use of these items that a valid contact person is nominated (this should be a permanent staff member) in case further consultation is required.
