The University of Canberra (UC) recognises the importance of welcoming new staff and assisting them to quickly become part of the UC community. The UC Induction and Orientation Program has been designed to assist you to settle in to your new job as quickly and smoothly as possible.
Induction and Orientation
Induction and Orientation involves several steps; there is a team induction and organisation induction that compliment each other and help our new staff find all the information they need to make them feel part of our community.
Team Induction and the Workplace Orientation Checklist
To assist you in preparing and conducting new staff through the induction in their workplace there is a Workplace Orientation Checklist (word 185kb) (pdf 474kb). It is important to begin working through the form prior to the commencement date to ensure the possible start on their first day.
Please ensure that an appropriate person is available to collect and welcome the new staff member (inductee) on their first day of work. This person (the inductor) must then commence the team induction using the Workplace Orientation Checklist.
Ideally the direct supervisor of the new starter will support them through the induction process, however a representative can be appointed to attend to the housekeeping arrangements eg. arranging internet and email access etc. using the Computer Access and Non Pay Form (this is located at http://www.canberra.edu.au/hr/forms/recruitment).
Once the Workplace Orientation Checklist has been completed by the Inductor and the Inductee, it must be signed and returned to the HR Unit for filing. You are required to complete the induction program within 3 months of joining UC. All employers have certain legal responsibilities for their staff, completion of the induction program confirms that UC has provided certain key areas of information such as OH&S and Equity policies to staff.
Organisational Induction
Organisational induction consists of an On-line Induction Course and a Face to Face Orientation Workshop. While it is specifically designed for new staff it can be completed at any time. It is recommended that new staff complete this as soon as possible once their employment is confirmed.
Face to Face Orientation is held several times a year with groups of new starters. For more information please contact Human Resources.
