The Health Service provides general practitioner consultations plus emergency medical care to all members of the University Community: students (undergraduate and postgraduate), staff (academic and general), families of students, the child care centres and crèche, and other people on campus such as visitors. The aim of the Health Service is to provide a comprehensive range of general practitioner and nursing services which include:
The Counselling Service is a place where students can talk in private to professionally trained psychologists about personal problems. These problems may be little niggly ones or large overwhelming ones. Students may come to counselling for help dealing with the stresses of study, or to just get something off their chests. They may want to talk about their families, their partners or how they feel about themselves. They may be struggling with something big like relationship break-ups, depression, traumatic incidents or unusual thoughts. Whatever the issue, a counsellor can help. Students can also be referred to other services for additional help if that is required.
Counsellors also support particular groups of students on campus such as international students and students living on Residences.

Health and Counselling provide an ethical and confidential service. The University does not have access to Health and Counselling records. The University of Canberra Health and Counselling Service respects your right to privacy. Medical services for Australian Students are bulk billed through Medicare. International students are required to have private health insurance. Nurses and counselling services are free. For further information regarding consultation and service fees, please contact our reception desk staff.
Health Insurance:
It is essential that all students have a Medicare number, or for International Students, a Medibank Private Health Insurance Number. Although most medical services are bulk-billed for students, it is essential to be clear about details of any private health insurance cover.
