Information for Students

Students' Association

The Students’ Association’s function is that of advocacy and representation for all undergraduate and non-award students at the University of Canberra and University of Canberra College. It offers assistance, information, advice and support to its members. Its major concern is for the academic and general welfare of its members, and to support this it actively promotes and defends students’ rights. The Students’ Association is a member of the National Union of Students and through its membership of NUS the Students’ Association fights for students’ rights directly with the Federal Government.

The Students’ Association assists students with academic appeals (including fail grades, show cause and exclusions); academic and welfare advice; information and assistance with Common Youth Allowance, Austudy, ABSTUDY and HECS. In addition the Students’ Association offers many services and resources to its members. These include the InfoCentre which provides one place in the University that can answer all student queries or direct students to the correct person in the University to answer the query. Other services provided include subsidised photocopying, facsimile service, passport photographs and overhead transparencies; free student lounge and kitchen facilities; and publications including CUrio and the student diary. In excess of $40,000 of emergency loans are issued to needy students each year.

The Students’ Association operates three semi-autonomous bodies to further represent and enhance the experience of certain members of our community:
