Current issues

New Member Reception 2008

• The New Member Reception 2008, a ceremony to induct our new Golden Key members, is being held on Wednesday 28th May in Building 2, Room 2B9. Registration will start at 5pm with the ceremony to start at 6pm. We are looking forward to welcoming new members to the UC Chapter and congratulate them all on their fantastic academic achievement.
• An information session will take place on Thursday 10th April in UC’s Library Lounge to give prospective new members an idea of what Golden Key is all about and to inform them of the benefits associated with joining such a prestigious organisation.

Golden Key Conferences 2008

• This year’s Golden Key Asia-Pacific Conference 2008 was held at the University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand from Thursday 31st January to Saturday 2nd February. Several members of the UC Chapter attended.
• The 2008 International Conference will be held in New Orleans from July 31st to August 2nd.

Student Mentoring

We are hoping to continue our Student Mentoring program which was initiated last year by the Academic Skills Program (ASP). The program proved its worth by showing an improvement in mentees’ unit grades. The program is run with volunteer GK student mentors working one-on-one with students who have come from overseas to study at UC. The mentors assist the mentees in various areas such as using WebCT, understanding expectations of unit assignments, where to start with research, academic-style writing etc. A huge thank you to the wonderful volunteers who came forward to help out with this. Leadership Weekend

Plans are being developed to organise a Leadership Weekend at the south coast. If you are interested in attending such an event, please get in touch to register your interest.

Chat Forums

• A chat forum for Golden Key has been created in the new UCSpace area. This is a great way to discuss and share ideas or issues openly with all members able to participate in two-way communication. Visit http://ucspace.canberra.edu.au/display/GK/Home to keep up-to-date on news. You will also find photos and other documents in the attachments area.
• GK head office have set up a MyGK forum where you can chat with Golden Key members worldwide. Follow the link, join up and get connecting:
