Guaranteed university accommodation

The University of Canberra and its accommodation service providers are pleased to offer guaranteed accommodation to new and continuing UC international students and UC first-year domestic students, including UC Diploma and UC ELICOS students.

A number of beds are available at various price points. Available room types and weekly pricing including utility costs are listed on our University of Canberra Approved Accommodation Price Comparison Chart and the application forms on the accommodation service providers' websites.

Accommodation guarantee eligiblity

To be eligible for this offer, students at the University of Canberra (UC) or the University of Canberra College (UCC) must:

  • be a new or continuing international student or a first-year domestic student;
  • commence study, or re-enrol, in Semester 1 or Semester 2 of the year of application;
  • undertake a course of study at the Bruce (Canberra, ACT) campus; and
  • submit their application to an accommodation service provider prior to 31 December for commencement in Semester 1 and by 30 June for commencement in Semester 2.

Applications for accommodation are accepted at any time during the year but the guarantee can only be confirmed for applications received by the cut off dates above. Those applying after these dates and all tertiary students who are not eligible for the guarantee will be offered accommodation once all accommodation guarantee students have been placed.

Frequently Asked Questions

A student is eligible for guaranteed accommodation if they:

  • are a new or continuing international student, or first-year domestic student at UC, UCC or UCELI;
  • accept their offer to study, or are continuing their studies at the University in 2018;
  • commence study, or re-enrol, in Semester 1, or Semester 2, 2018; and
  • submit their application in the Accommodation Guarantee Portal prior to the commencement of the Semester.

NOTE: Both locally based, interstate and international students can apply for guaranteed accommodation as long as they meet the above criteria.

Applications are accepted at any time during the year and non-eligible students will be offered accommodation after all accommodation guarantee students have been placed in accommodation.

Applications which do not meet the accommodation guarantee criteria are subject to availability.

To be eligible for guaranteed accommodation, you must register via the Accommodation Guarantee Portal and select a room from the options available. If you are not interested in any of accommodation options offered under the Accommodation Guarantee, please go to our accommodation webpage and apply directly to the provider that offers the type of accommodation you want. However, direct applications to accommodation providers are not covered by the Accommodation Guarantee Scheme.

Yes. The Accommodation Guarantee applies to new and continuing international students and first-year domestic students commencing or continuing in Semester 1, or Semester 2, 2018. Most providers will have some places available in Semester 2. If you are unable to secure campus accommodation, you can also look at off-campus accommodation options.

If you are a UCC or UCELI student that is:

  • a new or continuing international student or first-year domestic student;
  • commencing or continuing study in Semester 1, or Semester 2, 2018; you are eligible to apply for guaranteed accommodation.

If you believe you are eligible for guaranteed accommodation but are unable to complete the registration process via the accommodation portal, please email accommodationofficer@canberra.edu.au with your details and a representative will contact you within 2 – 3 working days

When your chosen provider receives your expression of interest, they will send you an accommodation application form to complete or direct you to their online application system. You will need to return the completed application form as soon as possible. Once the application has been processed and you receive your formal accommodation offer you will need to pay your deposit to secure your guaranteed room as there are a limited number of reserved beds and you might miss out. The timing for payment of the deposit may vary between accommodation providers.

Please be aware however, that applications made under the accommodation guarantee are only guaranteed a single offer of accommodation. Additional offers are subject to availability. Once accepted, offers of accommodation may have upfront non-refundable fees or cancellation fees. Refer directly to your offer of accommodation and to the accommodation provider for further information.

After you have completed and submitted the Accommodation Guarantee form, your chosen provider will contact you within 2 – 3 working days to confirm your registration, offer you alternative room types if your preference is not available, and complete application process.

Yes, an agent can apply for the Accommodation Guarantee on behalf of a student as long as you are authorised to access the students' personal information. You will need to enter the students' personal details on the Accommodation Guarantee form.

You will need to wait 2 – 3 working days to receive a response from your chosen accommodation provider. If you have not been contacted by the accommodation provider, please email your details to accommodationofficer@canberra.edu.au and the University will contact the provider on your behalf.
