Field Trips

The Bachelor of Environmental Science course incorporates field classes that visit a range of locations and environments in south-eastern Australia. The course aims to ensure that students visit such environments to see some of the species, biological communities and management issues in each. The environments are the coast, the mountains and the semi-arid zone. The coast at Jervis Bay includes the intertidal zone, heath and forests. The mountains include Namadgi National Park in the ACT. The semi-arid includes Willandra National Park and its chenopod shrublands and riverine woodland. Nearby mallee communities are also studied.

Aspects of terrestrial, freshwater and marine ecosystems are studied in the field classes which occur over each of the three years of the course.

Students conduct projects on species and communities during field classes. The students also learn ecological methods, and use the results to present seminars and submit reports. Relevant research projects of staff and postgraduate students are also highlighted and extended during the field classes.
