The Masters research degree courses are 2 years full time or equivalent, and result in the award of either a Master of Sport Science or Master of Sport Studies.

Within the area of Sport Science, specialisations are available in Sport Performance Analysis, Physiology, Biomechanics, or Motor Learning. Most courses include both coursework subjects and a research thesis. Coursework subjects are intended to develop new and advanced knowledge and abilities in students, and to contribute to the preparation of a research topic for the thesis to follow. The thesis is required to be an advanced investigation, embodying a substantial piece of original research which adds significantly to the literature in the subject area.

The University of Canberra also offers a Doctoral degree program, leading to the award of the Doctor of Philosophy degree. A minimum time period of at least three years full time study or equivalent will be required for completion of the Doctoral degree course.
