Jo commenced her nursing career in Canberra and has practiced clinically in a number of specialty areas including operating theatres, neurosurgical and orthopaedic nursing in several locations in Australia. Having a strong belief in holistic, person centred practice led Jo to begin working in palliative care in 1998 and since 2001 she has been the Palliative Care Education Coordinator at Clare Holland House. In 2003 Jo was the recipient of a Churchill Fellowship which supported her to travel to the United States to attend a course in palliative care education and practice at the Harvard Medical School, and several other countries to study practice development, and palliative care education. Jo has an interest in translating creativity into innovation in nursing practice and education. She is also interested in nursing cultures in contemporary healthcare; the place of nursing in inter-professional education and practice; and skills for relationship centred care. Jo is keen to understand more about palliative nursing care for people with dementia and intends to commence doctoral studies in the near future.
