Welcome!Welcome to Japanese at the University of Canberra. Here you can find all the information about Japanese studies. The Japanese course was established in 1975 at the University of Canberra and, since then, has earned the reputation of being one of the most practical and enjoyable courses in Australia. Introduction: Important Facts about JapaneseJapanese is the language of one of the world's major economies and is of enormous importance to Australians. The Australian government has long emphasised the crucial importance, in this age of internationalisation of the Australian economy, of professions with language skills and particularly Asian languages. Knowing Japanese will enhance employment opportunities in the hospitality and tourism industry, in areas of trade and commerce as well as in the teaching profession. In-Country Experience and ScholarshipsThe University of Canberra has exchange agreements with seven Japanese Universities. Students studying full-time at the University of Canberra are eligible to apply for six month to one year scholarships for these Universities as part of their University of Canberra course in their second year of study of Japanese. Students are selected to be nominated for scholarships on the basis of their academic achievement. Visit the Study Abroad site for more information on the UC study abroad program and our Japanese partner universities. Club ActivitiesStudents of the Japanese Section have a very active Club: the Japan Club.
