Thesis Title: Indonesia and the challenge of improving services in public hospitals via performance measurement

Supervisors: Dr. Chris Sadleir and Dr. Anni Dugdale

Abstract:

The research focuses on the link between organizational structure and the kind of quality measures that are used in different public hospitals. This includes looking at the relationship between quality measures and structure found in other hospitals in Indonesia as a means of providing a comparison with the wider hospital system.

Indonesia’s public hospitals use performance measurement as a tool for the improvement of quality of care for patient and communities. There are many performance measurement systems related to public hospitals; however, the quality of health services provision in Indonesia’s public hospitals remains low and the Indonesian government is seeking to improve this situation. Thus, the research investigates what kinds of approaches have influenced improvement in the quality of care in Indonesia from an organizational perspective.
