Thesis Title: Why and how the Gender Wage Gap exists: Evidence from Private and Public Sector in Bangladesh

Supervisors: Associate Professor Anne Daly and Professor Phil Lewis.

Abstract:

This research studies the major factors affecting the gender wage gap in Private and Public sector of Bangladesh evidence from “Labour Force Survey 2005-06”. It also investigates the portion of gender wage gap that is explained by measured factors and other unexplained factors. Furthermore, the research will compare the extent of the wage gap between sectors as well as discrimination using original Oaxaca (1973) method with selectivity correction. It will also investigate and compare the outcome of different decomposition methods on the private and public wage gap of Bangladesh.

Short Bio:

Nafisa Anjum is a doctoral candidate in Economics in the Faculty of Business and Government, University of Canberra. Before starting to this doctoral program, she worked as an Assistant Chief in the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs and Ministry of Planning of Bangladesh Government since 1999. She did her Mater of International and Development Economics at Australian National University, Australia and Bachelor and Master of Science from Jahangirnagar University, Dhaka, Bangladesh.
