Abstract
The research will find out the influence of institutional and market changes on structure, competition, and stability in Indonesia banking industry. The research will focus on three different phases which are deregulation period (1981 – 1996), the economic crisis (1997 – 2003), and consolidation period (2004 – 2009). The Panzar and Rosse’s (RS) method will be employed to measure the competition. The impact of consolidation policy and foreign penetration into market structure, competition and banking stability will be measured using time series econometric model developed by Micco and Yeyati (2003).
Potential Implication for Policy Reform or Management Practices:
Finding the link between policy implementation in banking sector ranging from deregulation to consolidation into competition and stability.
