Abstract
The integrated coastal management approach is the ability to create a governance system capable of managing multiple uses of coastal resources in an integrated way through the cooperation and coordination of government agencies at different levels of authority, communities, NGOs and private sector. Focus on governance systems enables the appraisal of the relationship between government and the community, and how these relationships shape policy and mediate the management of natural resources. In this research, the qualitative methodology was applied using a case study approach. I identified the perceptions of stakeholders relating to community engagement and participatory governance. The effective and sustainable management of coastal resources is crucial for the development of Indonesia and the welfare of its inhabitants.
Potential Implication for Policy Reform or Management Practices:
This study will provide a better understanding of current coastal management practices and indicate where improvement can be made especially concerning participatory governance.
