MBA Domestic Students
Introduction
The major goal of the graduate business awards at the University of Canberra is to educate participants in general management concepts and skills and their application and hence to enable them to manage more effectively and responsibly in a challenging and changing business environment.
Significant graduate outcomes include:
- an ability to plan and manage successfully in an increasingly complex and turbulent national and international environment, but within the framework of societal values;
- a high level of analytical, problem solving and communication skills;
- a creative, innovative and ethical approach in seeking new business opportunities; and
- an ability to act as an agent of change in organisational transformation.
Program Structure
The University of Canberra has taken an innovative approach to the structure of its graduate business program whereby students without a prior undergraduate degree can articulate into the Master of Business Administration (MBA) through the Graduate Certificate in Business Administration (GCBA) and the Graduate Diploma in Business Administration (GDBA).
GCBA participants must complete a total of four (4) units (12 credit points). GDBA participants must complete a total of eight (8) units (24 credit points), made up of the four (4) GCBA units plus an additional four. MBA participants must complete a total of twelve (12) units made up of the four (4) GCBA units, the four (4) GDBA units, plus four (4) additional units including the core unit, Strategic Management (see Table 1). Four of the 12 units must be taken at PG level.

Graduate Certificate in Business Administration (725)
The Graduate Certificate in Business Administration (GCBA) is designed to introduce managers and future managers to the core functions of management and business administration as well as to develop their managerial and career potential. The course content focuses on managing people, money and markets and provides the opportunity to study an elective subject to extend this knowledge base. It provides a strong theoretical and practical introduction to graduate business and management studies. Completion of the Certificate enables progression to a Graduate Diploma in Business Administration and a Masters in Business Administration (MBA).
Course Duration
1 semester full-time or equivalent part-time.
Admission Requirements
Applicants should possess an undergraduate degree or equivalent as approved by the Universitys Admissions Committee. Applicants without an undergraduate degree but with seven years relevant work experience are eligible for admission.

Graduate Diploma of Business Administration (724AA)
The Graduate Diploma in Business Administration (GDBA) is designed to build upon the knowledge and competencies gained in the Graduate Certificate. It focuses on developing the skills and abilities required to lead and manage in complex, global and changing business environments. It enables career progression from specialist-based positions to middle and senior level managerial positions in both the public and private sectors. Completion of the Diploma enables progression to a Masters of Business Administration (MBA).
Course Duration
2 semesters full-time or equivalent part-time.

Applicants should possess an undergraduate degree or equivalent as approved by the Universitys Admissions Committee. Applicants who have successfully completed the Graduate Certificate in Business Administration are eligible for admission.

Master of Business Administration (723)
The Master of Business Administration (MBA) is designed to develop and enhance the management competencies of current and future business leaders locally, nationally and globally. In addition to developing competencies in the core management areas of accounting & finance, marketing, managing people, economics, data analysis and understanding the international business environment, there is a focus on ethical and strategic decision making. There is also the opportunity to study elective subjects in areas of special interest.
The MBA is based on coursework and is designed to enable practicing managers and other professionals to transfer learning immediately to the workplace. The broad aim of the course is offer individuals aspiring to general management or senior functional management roles, the opportunity to develop competencies relevant to the effective management of enterprises.
