Marketing is one of the essential business functions. Including a marketing major in your degree or adding a postgraduate marketing qualification will provide you with a competitive edge in the job market. Marketing will provide you with a better understanding of the environment businesses operates in. It will also assist you in understanding your customers better, and guide you in providing the products and services that customers want.
Entrepreneurship is not just about making money. It is about acting creatively and commercialising new ideas. Thousands of start-up companies are emerging in Australia providing countless new employment opportunities for university graduates. As a result, a growing number of universities are offering Entrepreneurship as part of undergraduate and postgraduate programs across disciplines as diverse as science, arts, education, information technology, engineering and commerce. From the beginning of 2005, undergraduate students at the University of Canberra have the opportunity to undertake an approved minor in Entrepreneurship.
The approved minor in Entrepreneurship adds another dimension to an undergraduate degree because it focuses on creativity and innovation – valuable skills in today's diverse job market. It has been designed to enable students to recognise commercial opportunities and to develop the insight, self-esteem, knowledge and skills to act on them. These are traits that are not normally nurtured in traditional undergraduate courses.
