Economics
Economics provides a framework for thinking about a range of issues confronting both business and government. Microeconomics focuses on decision making at the individual or organisational level and addresses such questions as how consumers make their purchasing decisions and how producers choose what and where to produce. A crucial factor in each of these decisions is price and microeconomic theory considers how prices are determined in a range of market situations. The other broad area of Economics is Macroeconomics which focuses on the interrelationships between different parts of the economy and the implications for key variables such as the rate of unemployment, the inflation rate and the exchange rate. An understanding of basic economics principles is crucial for anyone running a business or designing and implementing government policies.
