Course Renewal 2012
In mid 2010 the Faculty of Business & Government commenced a review process of our undergraduate degree programs. This review identified several key areas that the Faculty wished to strengthen including:
- Flexibility - of choice within each program of study and by offering a broader range of suitable programs
- Relevance - of content to student employment aspirations
- Coherance - closely relating theoretical concepts to the specific work environments of students across the full length of the qualification including the development of stronger cohort identities among students
- Generic Skills - strengthening key skills in research and critical thinking
To address these goals the faculty will offer a range of new and revised Bachelor Degree programs for students commencing study from Semester 1 2012 (existing students will have the choice to complete their courses under the current structure or, where possible, transfer to the new courses & structures) built around a common framework that includes:
A Faculty Foundation Minor incorporating key units in:
- Government-Business Relations
- Problem Analysis & Statistics
- Problem Evaluation & Resolution
- and a capstone experience with a flexible range of options including internship and project based units as well as a range of policy related units around the topics of Environmental Sustainability, Civil Society, and similar fields.
An Open Major in most programs allowing students to study majors from across the university in areas such as languages, science, health and technology as well as a diverse range of complementary business & government offerings.
Greater Commonality between the first year structure of many of our degrees making it easier for students to change between courses with less penalty.
The ability to commence study in any session for the majority of our programs allowing students to commence study in Semester 2 as well as Semester 1.
