Biography
Architect, PhD, RA, RAIA
Architect and urban designer, I have over twenty-five years experience in private practice, government, teaching, and research in North America, Europe, and Australia. I consider myself a generalist architect taking on a variety of building types and open spaces at various scales for different kinds of clients. Architectural project types have included academic buildings and residential colleges, art galleries, courthouses, exhibition buildings, museums, office buildings, public parks, park buildings, residential towers. Research projects have treated a range of problems including urban design and development guidelines; university campuses; urban master plans; cultural institution space needs; museum master plans.
Current research is structured around three poles: the art of city design; formal analysis, with an emphasis on problems and devices of composition in architecture; modernist thought, and the evolution of the modernist project.
Recent studio or seminar topics: A 21st century Australian National Capital, on the Art of City Design; Analyzing the Houses of Mies van der Rohe.
