Bio: Dr Eugenie Keefer Bell is Associate Professor of Architecture in the Faculty of Arts and Design. She studied in the USA and Australia, and holds a PhD in Architecture and Fine Arts (University of Western Australia). Her research interests includes architecture and design history/theory, with a focus in the post-1850 architecture, design, and applied arts of Japan, Australia, Europe and the United States, including the reciprocal influences between Japan and Western countries. Bio: Ann Cleary FRAIA is a registered Architect and Lecturer in Architecture (part-time) at the University of Canberra. Ann also has a studio practice a r k k u : architecture and urban design. Ann’s experience in architectural and urban design work encompasses almost twenty-five years on both large scale architectural projects as well as small scale residential and urban infill projects. Bio: Stephen Frith’s research is in the history of architecture, especially concerned for the relation between rhetoric and architecture. This involves a considered study of the way texts and architecture inter-relate. He also writes on matters concerned for architecture and urban design. For example, he has recently written a paper on libraries in Finland.

The investigative and speculative aspect of Gevork Hartoonian’s research in architectural history/theory draws from Walter Benjamin’s drive to save the tradition from its tendency to conform.
