Welcome from the ADR
Research in the Faculty of Arts & Design
Staff and higher degrees students in the Faculty of Arts and Design are part of a lively research culture, where the broad focus of research is on:
-
how we communicate (through what media, for what audiences, in what languages and forms, and with what ethical concerns?);
-
how we build knowledge (what counts as knowledge and information, how is it managed, and how do we understand and make sense of the environments in which we live?); and
-
how creative practice can generate both knowledge and communication (when is creative practice a form of knowledge, how do creative works operate within contemporary society, what are the links between aesthetics, ethics and representation?)
The Faculty supports a range of discussion groups, seminar series, occasional lectures, exhibitions and other research events. These are generally open to the public: we invite any interested people to contact us (see below), or come along to the events as publicised on our webpage.
Staff and research students investigate important questions in:
-
communication: including journalism, public relations, marketing communication, government communication and knowledge information systems;
-
architecture and design: including architecture history and theory; landscape architecture and industrial design;
-
digital media: including, visual and haptic research, graphic design and games;
-
aspects of language: including narrative forms, language teaching, and language acquisition; and
-
excellence in teaching across the disciplines represented in the Faculty.
