HDR Representatives

Neda Akbari

Neda-photoAs the HDR representative on the Faculty of Arts and Design (FAD) Research Committee, I will ensure  that all HDR students’ ideas, interests, and concerns be shared within the Faculty. I will also facilitate HDR students’ involvement in the research community and encourage HDR students’ interaction among themselves. I am looking forward to meeting all HDR students in FAD and hearing about their needs, concerns, and also praises.
My email address is: neda.akbari@canberra.edu.au

As for my own PhD candidature: I am a second year full time PhD student in Applied Linguistics. My project seeks to explore how the 2nd language mental lexicon develops by investigating breadth, depth, and accessibility of words in the 2nd language mental lexicon and comparing it to those in the 1st language. The subjects are English native speakers and English non-natives of ages 7, 12, and 17. This project focuses on how the depth and accessibility of words in the L2 mental lexicon get affected by increase in the breadth of words and the subjects' age.
