Dean's Welcome

Lyndon PhotoWelcome to the Faculty of Arts and Design. We are a large, diverse faculty, offering programs that range from the highly conceptual to the deeply practical. Creativity is at the core of what we do in all our programs: whether in the making of creative objects in design, architecture, advertising, digital media and writing, or through innovative approaches to public and professional communication studies, cultural heritage and international studies.

Our programs are designed to ensure that you graduate ready to launch your career, and are able to show potential employers both your professional knowledge and your skills in critical and creative thinking, communication, collegiality, and ethical practice.

All students in our programs select from a range of foundation units in first year, to complement their studies in their chosen degree; build their knowledge in second year through a focus on practical, professional and conceptual studies; and refine their knowledge in third year through internships, other work-integrated learning opportunities and, in most cases, through completing capstone studies where they produce a major piece of work on a topic of their choice. For those interested in further studies, we offer postgraduate courses at honours, postgraduate coursework, and postgraduate research levels right across our disciplines.

Our well-equipped studios and laboratories ensure students have access to up to date environments, and our flexible programs are designed to help you build the knowledge and experience best suited to your interests and aspirations. The new National Media Centre and Student-led Communications Agency are examples of expanding resources that give students hands-on real-life experiences in the industries they will enter upon graduation.

I invite you to explore our website where you will find information about our current and new programs of study, and also meet our current students, learn about their creative output and national achievements, and see the pride in which we hold the considerable achievements of our alumni.
