University Security
The Security Section is located in Building 1 on the Concourse, Room 1B23. Officers patrol the campus and are on call round the clock to deal with inquiries and provide assistance. A Unisafe Emergency Telephone is visible to the right of the entrance.
Preferred Pathways
Use the University's Preferred Pathways, especially after dark. These pathways have been specially lit for ease of access on campus.
Security Escort
At night, Security will escort students and staff to car parks and residences. This service is available as time permits by phoning ext 2222.
UCU Security Shuttle Bus Service
This service runs in the evenings and is a safe way of getting to the University Residences, your car or bus-stop. Details are published on our Transport Page.
Unisafe Emergency Phones
These are phones provided by the University that can be used to dial internal University numbers, 000 Emergency Services, University Security, NRMA Road Service, ACT Taxis and Home Link Numbers free of charge. These phones are available at the following locations:
- Building 1 in alcove on the South-West corner (around corner from University Entrance).
- Building 1 on the Concourse outside the Security Office
- Building 3 A level at undercroft (entrance from east side of the building)
- Building 5 on the North West A level entrance
- Building 6/7 inside the foyer at the North where the two buildings join
- Building 7 inside the foyer at the South end
- Building 9 at the West B level entrance
- Building 10 inside the main entrance
- Building 10 outside the main entrance
- Building 11 on wall outside East entrance.
- Building 12 inside the foyer
- Building 14 inside the foyer
- International House (rear of Office)
- Student Residences A-H: outside in central area
- Student Residences/University Village: outside the Caretaker's Office (Cooinda Hut)
- College House (rear entrance to Office)
- Arscott House
- East side in covered way leading to courtyard, near P Block
- West side, near carpark

Safety Tips
- Report any suspicious behaviour on campus to Security. Prompt reporting of incidents helps prevent recurrences.
- Be alert and walk purposefully. Confidence deters attackers.
- Use the 'Preferred Pathways' which are better lit and used by more people.
- If threatened, be prepared to scream 'No!" and get away.
- Take a self defence course.
- When you're socialising, drink in moderation.
Public Telephones
- Always carry change or a phone card. You may need to call a taxi, friend, family member of Security if you're stranded or nervous.
- After you have dialled, turn your back to the phone and speak looking outwards.
Taking Public Transport
- Know your bus timetables to avoid long waits
- In taxis, sit in the back seat on the opposite side to the driver. Don't discuss personal matters. Keep a note of the taxi number.
- Let someone at your destination know when to expect you.
Taking your car
- Move your car closer if you plan to be on campus after dark.
- Hold your keys ready to open the door and be prepared to use them to jab an attacker.
- Check the back seat or hatch for intruders before getting into the car.
- Once inside, lock all doors and leave windows up until you've reached your destination safely.
Service Contact Points
Service Contact Points are located at various positions around the campus. The Service Points are designated meeting points within the University for NRMA Road Service and Taxi pick-up and drop off. The Service Points are sign posted and are located at:

Building 1 - New Main Entrance (South Side)
Entry from College street into Kirinari then second turn left and up to new entrance.

Building 14 - Boiler House Theatre (South Side)
Entry from College street into Kirinari then second right into first parking area.
No 3
Building 5 - Faculty of Education (West corner of car park)
Entry from College street into Cooinda then turn right into Telita, follow to car park.

Buildings 6 & 7 - Faculties, Management and Environment Design (West Wall)
Entry from Ginninderra Drive, first right into Pantowora and then follow to first left in Jamberoo.
No 5
Building 10 - Computer Centre, Kirinari (North/East side)
Entry from Ginninderra Drive, take fourth turn on right into Broula then right into Kirinari.

Building 11 - Information Science and Engineering, via Allawoona to East building entrance.
Entry from Ginnindera Drive into Allawoona, continue to the end of the road (opposite white gates)
Student Residences
Opposite Village Resources Centre (near white gates)
Entry from College street into Cooinda, then first left into car park and follow west to white gates.
