Inclusion and Welfare

Providing support for:

Inclusion & Welfare brings together general welfare support for all students, support for students with disability or ongoing health conditions, as well as a range of specialist support programs.

Inclusion & Welfare invites you to make an appointment to discuss your support needs and the types of adjustments that may be available to assist you with your studies.

Appointments are available face-to-face, via Skype, or telephone. Office hours are Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

Inclusion & Welfare is located in Building 1, Level B, Room 156 (opposite UC Medical and Counselling).

Support for students with disability or ongoing health conditions

Inclusion & Welfare coordinates and implements services and supports to assist students with disability or ongoing health conditions. This is achieved through the provision of reasonable adjustments to enable equal access and participation in university life. Who can register for disability support?

You are eligible to register if you:

  • have a disability
  • experience injury or illness
  • are diagnosed with a medical or mental health condition
  • are the primary carer of someone with disability and/or continuing health condition.

Support is available whether your condition is permanent, fluctuating or temporary. Eligibility is determined at a registration appointment with an Inclusion Advisor.

You may register for disability support at any time during your studies. Please contact Inclusion & Welfare as early as possible to enable us to arrange your support in a timely manner.

Student Welfare Support

The Welfare Officer provides advice, support and referral to students who are experiencing a range of personal, financial and academic difficulties. The Welfare Officer also provides advice to students on grievance and misconduct matters.

Specialist Support Programs

UC Belong

The Inclusion and Welfare Office Program "UC Belong" supports students from the following groups:

  • Newly commencing students from Rural and Regional Areas
  • Humanitarian Visa Holders
  • First in Family to Attend University
  • Indigenous
  • Low SES
  • Have disability/medical condition.

The program aims to enhance wellbeing and a sense of belonging through the provision of workshops, activities and student focused events. For more information please contact the Welfare Officer.

Rural and Regional Student Support

Rural and Regional students are supported through the UC Belong Program. For further information please contact the Welfare Officer.

Elite Athlete Support

The University of Canberra is a member of the Elite Athlete Friendly University (EAFU) network and is dedicated to supporting elite athletes in their quest for academic success. Support is available for Elite athletes including flexible study options, advocacy, and academic program adjustments. Residential Student Support

The Residential Student Support Project aims to enhance the residential student experience for students living at University of Canberra Village and UC UniLodge. The Residential Student Support Officer works in collaboration with University of Canberra Village and UC UniLodge to  run a number of social, cultural and academic support events and services throughout the year for all UC Residents. Accommodation Support

Accommodation Support is offered to all current and future students in finding off-campus or on-campus accommodation. The Residential Student Support and Accommodation Officer does not place students in accommodation but does provide information and assistance to help students find suitable accommodation. For more information visit the Residential Student Support and Accommodation Project Page or contact the Accommodation Officer.

Support for Students from a Refugee Background

The Students from a Refugee Background Support Program sits within the UC Belong program. In addition to the support provided by the UC Belong program, newly commencing students on a Humanitarian Visa are provided the opportunity to access one on one tutoring and text book funding. The Multi-faith Centre

The Multi-faith Centre is the point of contact for students of all different faiths providing information, resources, on-campus religious services and links with all the local faith communities. It is a place where students can go to talk about anything they wish in a confidential supportive environment. No appointment is necessary, just drop in. The contemplation space is available for students to use for quiet reflection.

The Multi-faith Centre is located in the rooms 1C100 (contemplation space) and 1C104 (Chaplains' Office) in Building One. A Muslim Prayer Room is located in 2A2.
