NSW Travel Concession

Current students

NSW residents

First check if you are eligible for a NSW transport concession on the Transport NSW website. If you are eligible, you can complete an Application for a NSW Tertiary Student Concession (online form).

Opal Concession card

The Opal Concession card is available for eligible UC students living in NSW.

If you are eligible, please complete the following steps in order to be approved by TfNSW for your concession.

1) Provide consent: You must complete the online consent form and agreement. The University of Canberra will then validate the data to determine your eligibility for the concession.  Updated and new data will be sent to Transport for NSW after the 20th of each month. Please ensure you apply prior to the next upload date so that you will be eligible for a student concession with Opal.

2) Apply directly via the Opal website for your concession Opal card.

3) Once you have completed your application on the Opal website your new Opal card will be sent to you within 5-7 days. You will then need to activate your card by following the instructions provided with your Opal card.

Please note: You will need to carry your Student ID card or a Transport Concession Entitlement Card with you, to travel with your Concession Opal card.

Students outside the Opal network

If you are eligible, please complete the following steps in order to be approved by TfNSW for your concession.

1) Provide consent: You must complete the online consent form and agreement. The University of Canberra will then validate the data to determine your eligibility for the concession.  Updated and new data will be sent to Transport for NSW after the 20th of each month. Please ensure you apply prior to the next upload date.

2) Apply for a Transport Concession Entitlement Card.  Tertiary Student Concession Cards and foil stickers will not be accepted after 31 March 2017.

Please note: You will need to carry a Transport Concession Entitlement Card with you, to travel on a concession fare.  Your Student ID card is not valid concession entitlement outside of the Opal network.

Privacy – Transport for NSW – Consent to disclose your personal information.

In order for the University of Canberra to confirm your name, date of birth and University of Canberra Student ID with the TfNSW, we require you to read and consent to sharing this information using the online form.  Information regarding how your information will be used and disclosed is set out on the form. Eligibility - Full time status is calculated by EFTSL per semester.  You must be enrolled in a minimum of 18 credit points for the year to be considered full-time.  You can check your Confirmation of Enrolment (My UC > Enrolments and Timetable > Confirmation of Enrolment) to see your enrolment status.
