The Gateway The Child, Youth & Family Gateway is a service for children, young people and families who are looking for help with the tough stuff, but are not sure where to go.

Emergency+ smartphone application If you are in a situation where you need help but are not sure who to call, the new Emergency+ app can show you what number to call in an 'emergency' or 'non-emergency' situation.

Disability Support

Disclosure: It's a personal decision For students and staff regarding pathways that people can use in disclosing their disability in post secondary education and employment environments.

National Disability Coordination Office Provides information to assist people with a disability to move from school into training and higher education, and then into their chosen career.

Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission Resources and links on disability discrimination and other human rights and disability issues.

Carers ACT Carers ACT supports unpaid carers, provides information and links you with help and services.

Launchpad provides information and resources for young people with autism and their families who are are about to leave school on how to develop a plan that fits with their interests and abilities.

Mental Health

The Crisis Assessment and Treatment Team (CATT) is a seven day 24 hour outreach service. Their role is to provide a highly accessible and responsive acute mental health assessment and treatment service in the most appropriate setting.

Lifeline 13 11 14
Lifeline provides all Australians experiencing a personal crisis with access to online, phone and face-to-face crisis support and suicide prevention services.

Beyondblue Beyondblue is working to reduce the impact of depression and anxiety in the community by raising awareness and understanding, empowering people to seek help, and supporting recovery, management and resilience.

Mental Health Foundation Directory of Services A comprehensive list of services, information sources and help centres for various mental health related issues in and around the ACT and surrounding areas of NSW.

Domestic Violence

Beryl Women Inc Beryl Women Inc. provides support and safe housing to women and children escaping domestic/family violence.

First Point First Point is a central contact and free referral service for Canberrans who are homeless or at risk of being homeless. They can put you in touch with an appropriate domestic violence service or shelter.

Domestic Violence Crisis Service The Domestic Violence Crisis Service provides crisis intervention and telephone support 24 hours/ 7days a week and provides information and referrals for women, men and young people.

Food Relief

Contact Canberra provides a list of Food Co-ops/Pantries for those struggling to balance their budgets or those with a genuine financial need.

Financial Advice and Assistance

Care Financial Counseling Service Care Inc. is a community organisation set up to ensure low income consumers are treated fairly and have support to overcome debt.


Tenants Union ACT Inc. Provides advice about your rights, responsibilities and options for resolving tenancy disputes. You'll find factsheets on common renting issues and sample letters to help you write to your landlord or property manager.

Community Housing Canberra CHC is a not-for-profit development company that delivers affordable properties for both sale and rent to the ACT community.

Housing ACT Provides social housing, help for homelessness and bond loans.

Legal Aid

Legal Aid ACT A free legal service for all residents of the ACT. Information and referrals are available over the phone, or make an appointment to see a lawyer for a wide variety of referrals and assistance on legal matters.

Youth Law Centre ACT A drop-in legal service for young people aged 12-25. Specialises in issues around employment, fines, debt, discrimination and criminal matters.

Women's Legal Centre The Women's Legal Centre is a community legal centre for women in Canberra and the surrounding area. The Centre is run by women and aims to improve women's access to justice.

Aboriginal Legal Service ALS is an Aboriginal community organisation giving information and referral, and legal advice and court representation to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men, women and children across NSW and ACT.

Canberra Community Law is an independent not-for-profit, non-government community legal centre dedicated to providing free legal advice and representation to individuals and community groups on; tenancy, public housing, social security and disability discrimination law.


The Desk provides students with information and skills to help them be relaxed, energised, and connected during their time at university. It empowers them to manage their own problems as they arise.
