    In this unit participants will develop literacy skills which enable them to access, understand, analyse and evaluate information, make meaning, express thoughts and emotions, present ideas and opinions, interact with others and participate in tertiary level activities.

    Learning Outcomes

    On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

    1. Understand and work with key written and spoken academic genres e.g. persuasive texts, discussions;

    2. Use text, sentence and word knowledge to read and write academic texts;

    3. Understand and work with three levels of grammatical understanding: naming, function and intention;

    4. Understand the productive and receptive components of visual literacies; and

    5. Understand and use the Information Literacy process for locating, selecting and using resources.
