    Syllabus

    Using case studies based on topical issues across the information sector, this unit explores the key management approaches, strategies and skills that can be used to address the issues. Typically, scenarios are drawn from the contemporary digital information environment and focus on management responses to changing knowledge and information practices, including the move from print to digital information. Case studies are based in a range of information agencies, public and private. Management topics covered typically include project management, needs analysis, strategic planning, organisational culture, staff training, staff selection, budgeting and legal/ethical issues. Students will be expected to complete a set of assessment tasks based around the case studies.

    Learning Outcomes

    On the successful completion of this unit students will be able to:

    1. Manage the changing environment in the information sector;

    2. Provide quality information services;

    3. Undertake project management and its subtasks;

    4. Manage budget processes for information management; and

    5. Apply rigorous performance measures for the information sector.
