Understanding the places in which we teach is an important precondition to facilitating effective student learning. This unit helps students develop a framework for recognising how places and communities differ, to develop cultural sensitivities, and to situate their practice to meet the learning needs if students in diverse geographic and cultural settings such as rural and remote settings, urban settings, and Indigenous communities. The unit explores the role of education in sustaining places and communities.
On completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. Demonstrate a range of approaches to recognise situated and culturally relevant knowledge; and
2. Apply a range of techniques in including diverse cultural knowledge in teaching and learning.
