    Syllabus

    This unit introduces students to the practice and theory of creative writing in our contemporary world. It explores fiction and creative nonfiction forms; introduces students to the concepts of what creative writing is, being a writer, and 'writing across the curriculum'; and develops some basic creative and professional writing strategies and skills. It gives students the opportunity to experiment and practice with different forms of writing and in different registers for a variety of audiences, to develop interests and talents. Students are encouraged to develop their writer's eye and to keep a writing journal. The unit introduces students to the professional field of writing and publishing, including market opportunities, and to legal and ethical responsibilities. This unit is co-taught with Introduction to Creative Writing G.

    Learning Outcomes

    On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

    1. Write short creative works for different audiences;

    2. Utilise and develop strategies for enhancing their own creativity;

    3. Employ basic fiction and creative non-fiction writing and editing strategies;

    4. Reflect, review and assess their own writing practice;

    5. Produce work to a finished standard with respect to editing and revision;

    6. Understand and interpret markets for their work; and

    7. Value and respect differing views.
