    Syllabus

    This unit covers writing, illustrating, editing and publishing of writing for young people from birth through adolescence. It includes a study of audience needs and reader response theory, and research into aspects of publishing and marketing. Quality writing is explored through literary genres and thematic approaches. Influences on the literature examined include awards, reviews and criticism, and social, cultural and political concerns. This unit is co-taught with Writing for Young People G.

    Learning Outcomes

    On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

    1. Write confidently for young people demonstrating an awareness of audience and various markets

    2. Undertake market research and identify appropriate publishers for particular works

    3. Demonstrate skills in evaluating and enhancing creative writing

    4. Critically evaluate and edit creative works

    5. Apply concepts presented in the research literature to the analysis of literature for young people and issues surrounding both audience and literature
