Introduction:

The human nutrition minor provides a theoretical and practical introduction to the composition, behaviour, metabolic and physiological functions of foods, nutrients and components of foods. Techniques for assessing the nutrient adequacy of diets of individuals and population groups are addressed, as well as the use of nutrient databases, nutrition education tools and resources, dietary reference standards and government food regulation processes. Issues relating to the link between foods and nutrients and selected lifestyle diseases (eg obesity, eating disorders, iron depletion and osteoporosis) are introduced. This minor is highly recommended for students seeking an understanding of food- and diet-related health issues and intending to work in allied or community health, in teaching or with sports people.
