Introduction

This course is designed for students interested in working in the human and community service sectors. This is one of the fastest growing industries and is evolving rapidly to meet the changing environmental, economic, social and cultural demands facing individuals, families and communities. This qualification provides students with a theoretical and practical basis to work as effective community change agents across a broad range of sectors and issues in both government and non-government organisations. The course covers areas such as human learning and development, adult and community education, ethics, change theory, social research and concludes with a year long applied field project. The course has two areas of specialization in counselling studies and community development.

Graduates of the course find employment in a wide range of settings in areas such as client support and advocacy services, community development, policy development, program management or planning and within community organisations as service coordinators, project officers or community workers.

Students undertake two field placements which can be taken locally, nationally or internationally.
