Unit: Equity Law (7029)

    Completion of Legal Systems or equivalent. Entry to the LLB program.


    This unit will provide students with a grounding in the principles of equity and equitable remedies. The unit also examines nature of the trust, the concept of fiduciary duties and the capacity, duties and powers of trustees. The aim of this subject is to provide students with a thorough grounding in equitable doctrines and remedies and the law of trusts.

    Learning Outcomes

    On completion of the course of study in this unit, students will have a sound understanding of the principal doctrines and remedies of equity; be familiar with the history of equity, the way in which equitable principles have developed and the relationship of equity to the common law; understand the leading contemporary critical analyses of equitable principles and the potential for future development of those principles; be able to provide advice on the application of equitable principles to given fact situations; and have developed skills in advocacy, legal research and writing and the presentation of advice to clients concerning the application of equitable principles.
