On successful conclusion of this unit, students will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the legal foundations of Australian public institutions; demonstrate an understanding of the impact of the Constitution on private and commercial life; demonstrate an understanding of the role of the High Court in the governance of Australia; demonstrate an understanding of the manner in which the Commonwealth government works within the limitations of the Constitution to achieve its goals; acquire and demonstrate skills of identification and application of constitutional law to political and social issues; acquire and demonstrate skills of legal analysis and legal reasoning; and acquire and demonstrate the ability to compose and express complex legal arguments.Syllabus
The areas examined include the: Com/State relationship; Constitutional significance of political institutions; influence of the constitution on federal governance; and impact of the constitution on individuals.
