Bachelor of Industrial Design (792AA)
Faculty of Arts and Design
This course will be replaced by the Bachelor of Industrial Design course (118JA) from Semester 1, 2010 and is closed to new enrolments.
Industrial designers design products taking into account not just the visual and tactile qualities of a product, but also its function, ergonomics, manufacture, environmental and social impacts. The products can be as diverse as telephones, cars, home appliances, packaging, furniture and exhibition systems, to name just a few. This degree will enhance your creative ability while developing a range of new technical skills. As an industrial designer you will apply these skills to often complex and challenging briefs for creating new products or updating and improving existing products. The range of industries requiring industrial designers is vast and employment opportunities are developing throughout the global economy in areas such as telecommunications, digital multimedia, architectural products, retail design, as well as within the marketing, packaging design and graphics areas of product development.
