Please note:This course is not available for new admissions in 2012. We recommend students focus on broadening their skills either as Primary or Secondary Teachers. Faculty of Education
Middle school teaching focuses on the last two years of primary school and the first two years of secondary school. With many schools now building a middle school as a separate level to help young students with this important transition, the industry requires specialist teachers who understand and manage issues related to young adolescents. The program develops your knowledge of teaching theories, adolescent development, and the context and philosophy of middle schooling for teaching across key learning areas. There is an internship in fourth year, to ensure you apply your learning in this specialist education sector before graduation. Once graduated, your options are open as you can teach in primary (K-6), middle school (5-8) or secondary schools (up to year 10) in a chosen area of specialisation.
